Work in progress: New body shop in Munich

The new car body production hall at the BMW Group's main plant in Munich is gradually taking on its final shape.

The full dimensions can now be recognised with a length of more than

200 metres in length,

80 metres wide and

up to 40 metres high.

The structure is being built by the Max Bögl Group, on whose behalf Bergmeister Ingenieure carried out the detailed design of the supporting structure. For the load-bearing elements, the building materials steel and concrete were used according to their strengths:

  • Pre-stressed precast concrete columns up to C80/95
  • Stiffening cores in in-situ concrete construction with climbing formwork
  • Façade panels, shafts and stairwells made from prefabricated wall panels
  • Composite beams with high fire resistance
  • Reinforced concrete ceilings, smoothed and directly utilised
  • Roof supports in composite construction
  • Steel roof structure

The construction required technically very challenging details which could only be solved thanks to the close co-operation between planning and production. The multi-storey construction saves building land and thus avoids the sealing of new grassland. The design was planned to be as flexible as possible so that the supporting structure can be adapted to changing production requirements with little effort.

This project is part of the reorganisation of the BMW Group's main plant in Munich, where electric cars of the New Class will roll off the production line from 2026. Our expertise and commitment have made it possible to develop innovative solutions that meet both BMW's high quality standards and the demanding requirements of the project.

A big thank you to our dedicated team and to Max Bögl and the BMW Group for their trust in our abilities. Together we are shaping the future of mobility!
