A22 highway overpass , Elzenbaum / Pruno

The "Elzenbaum Overpass" is located near the town Sterzing / Vipiteno along the A22 highway. Because the existent structure was no longer in conformance with higher load-bearing requirements and a modification or remediation of the overpass had to be excluded from the onset, it was necessary to completely demolish the overpass and construct a new one.
The new structure has a total length of 103.75 meters. The two supports are separated by span widths of 42.00 meters. They are symmetrically arranged with respect to the mid support. This mid support serves simultaneously as a fixed bearing point for reducing longitudinal deformations of the overall supporting structure.
The cross-section of the carriageway support – planned as a 70-cm-thick, unbounded, pre-stressed concrete slab – tapers towards the ends to 30 cm. The design of the supporting components displays a gentle curve and follows the shape of the railing.
