Slow traffic bridge, Au-Lustenau
Project description
The bridge unites the communities of Au and Lustenau on the left and right bank of the Rhine by means of a hybrid structure in terms of form, structure and materials.
- which reinterprets the locally historically anchored, covered wooden bridge in a modern dress and with the latest construction technology.
- which optimally combines the load-bearing functions of arch, beam and shell structures as well as the advantages of timber and solid construction methods.
- which makes the Rhine accessible and experienceable for the users - under the protection of a roof - through the very wide lateral openings, the exits and the viewing platforms.
- which, thanks to the combination of materials with visible wood and concrete elements and the covering with light moss mats, harmoniously blends into the river landscape of the outflowing Alpine Rhine, both in its current state and after completion of the RHESI project.
- which meets the requirements of flood protection through the number and positioning of the river piers and the choice of a structure with a suspended, slender roadway without requiring significant ramps and access structures at the dam.
