Storage basin in Laugen, Elvas / Natz
Project description
The new storage basin on the high plateau of Natz is used to irrigate agricultural fields having an area of more than 700 hectares. At present, chiefly fruits and grapes are grown on the plateau. Especially the intensively cultivated fruit orchards require a continuous and reliable water supply. Because of climate change and resultant longer dry periods, a reliable source of water is of great importance. The expansion of the area and the establishment of earth dams made it possible to increase the original storage volume from 39,000 to 90,000 cubic meters.
During the expansion, the entire external sealing (plastic sheeting) was replaced and the complete installation (including armatures and controls) upgraded. Parallel to this, a large part of the main pipeline was also refurbished.
