City-Country-River: The Eisack-Brixen river region, Brixen / Bressanone

This project won the "City-Country-River" competition and includes a number of measures designed to enhance life at and with the river in Brixen / Bressanone on three levels: The ecology of bodies of water, flooding security, and shaping riverine lands. The jury found high praised for the town planning idea of setting up a public space with the theme of "river and water" in the old slaughterhouse. The project was titled "Wasserhaus" ("water house"). Against the backdrop of many years of previous work in the City-Country-River project, both the inhabitants of Brixen / Bressanone and visiting tourists are to be introduced to the topic and brought into the project. In keeping with this principle, the project is based upon bicycle paths and pedestrian trails at and on the river – called "Brixen Water Ways." Constructional measures – including steps one can sit on, overhangs, bridges, flat shores, a standing wave, new paths, and places to sit down at and on the river – are intended to finally make it once again possible to experience and enjoy the water in Brixen / Bressanone.
