"City-Country-River: The Eisack-Brixen river region"- Flood protection, Brixen / Bressanone

To safeguard the valley floor of Brixen / Bressanone, to improve the quality of life there, and to ecologically enhance the riverine area of the middle Eisack Valley: Those are the goals set by the sponsors of the "City-Country-River" project. To achieve these goals, in 2014, an international idea competition was announced. The Bergmeister GmbH was awarded the contract. This competition included flood protection measures along the Eisack / Isarco River and the Rienz / Rienza River in the center of Brixen / Bressanone with a length of about 4.0 km. The "Old Town" are of Brixen can already be affected by a 30-year flood; the potential damage could be enormous. For this reason, the improvement of flood-protection measures has been assigned top priority. As the winning team, we will now have to work out the final planning in the first planning lot (pertaining to the area of Brimi to the "Old Slaughterhouse"). We will also be in charge of execution planning and construction management for the pedestrian bridges. As of July of 2019, the first approx. 750-meter-long segment of restored river has been provided with a flat shoreline, a new pedestrian bridge, and reinforced river bank walls.
