Train station offensive – Reconstruction of the main train station, Klagenfurt
Project description
In the context of a train station offensive by the Austrian railway, the main train station in the city of Klagenfurt was reconstructed. The terminal hall (which enjoys special legal protection as an historical building) was reconstructed, add-ons to the station hall installed, canopies attached to the terminal hall, a forecourt roof built, and platform roofs built along the platforms. Further planning tasks pertained to the construction of a foot-bridge enclosed in steel glass from the terminal hall to the Bahnstrasse at the other end of the track ladder with access options via steel stairs, escalators, and glass-steel elevators and serving as a direct elongation of the terminal hall as well as a replacement for the existent passenger tunnel. The various parts of the main building were largely gutted. The room-high Hoke frescoes in the terminal hall enjoy special legal protection, and were provided with long-term protection by means of a pre-stressed wall slab on the reverse side.
