Day-Care Center, type 150 minus, Berlin
Project description
Excerpt from the jury's decision: "The plan depicts one variant with 150 places and a building structure consisting of a three-story bar and a shorter two-story wing. The smaller variant with 120 places allows the room arrangement to be efficiently incorporated into the three-story bar. The building's overall appearance is dominated by a shelf-like steel structure in the front; this structure serves as an escape route for all of the common rooms; additionally, with expanded-metal components, it acts as a sunscreen, visual screen, and anti-burglary measure. The choice of color is open; the individual buildings can be given different colors."
The building's supporting structure consists of wood and wood materials; efforts focused on standardizing and serial manufacturing.
